Dhoni had an easy hit in the nets before the KKR clash
MS Dhoni had a brief spell of batting in the nets ahead of the match against KKR at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, but according to ESPNcricinfo, he is still unlikely to play in the clash against KKR on Tuesday.Dhoni has missed all four matches for CSK this season due to a calf strain and is expected to miss the fifth match as well. The 44-year-old player is still working on full fitness. On March 28, CSK said Dhoni would miss the first two weeks of the season and undergo rehabilitation. That spell is now over but he has yet to show match fitness.During practice, Dhoni only faced batting, mainly from batting coach and former teammate Michael Hussey, and did not bat at full intensity. He also did not do any goal drills in training.Dhoni has not traveled with the team for away matches this season.Before the previous match against Punjab Kings, head coach Stephen Fleming said that Dhoni continues to play a role in the team.“It’s just a game without him. He’s still heavily involved in the party and his influence remains very strong,” Fleming said.In 278 IPL matches, Dhoni scored 5,439 runs in 242 innings at an average of 38.30 and a strike rate of 137.45, including 24 fifties and a top score of 84*. He is the sixth top scorer of the tournament. Last season when CSK finished bottom, he made 196 runs in 13 innings at an average of 24.50 and a strike rate of over 135, with a highest score of 30.
