Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad and his younger son and Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar State Assembly Tejashwi Prasad criticized the National Democratic Alliance government in the state and at the Centre, saying they had “fought” the BJP-RSS and “will fight them till their last breath”.

The two leaders were addressing party workers and supporters at the party headquarters in Patna on the occasion of the 30th foundation day on Wednesday (July 1, 2026).

RJD was founded by Mr. Prasad on July 5, 1997; The Foundation Day events will continue for the next four days across the state to “strengthen the party and its organization at the district and booth level as well”, Mr. Yadav said.

“RJD’s identity was a politics of struggle. We have fought and we will fight,” Mr Prasad said, appealing to party leaders, workers and supporters to be “united and forget internal differences and strengthen the party to the booth level”.

The working president of the party said on this father’s remarks, “Lalu Prasad is not just a name but an ideology because he never compromised his ideology to fight for the poor, backward and downtrodden classes of people.

He continued and added, “I will fight against BJP and RSS till my last breath. Power is not (remains) with one person all the time. Times change and even today RJD is the largest political party of the state and organizational strength is our biggest asset.”

Talking about the BJP-led NDA governments, Mr. Yadav further alleged, “The Bihar government is being run by remote control from Delhi. The treasury is empty and there is no money for salaries of government employees and development because of dishonest officials. Corruption is rampant in the state.”

“Today it has become fashionable that whoever abuses Lalu Prasad, BJP will support him. Today he is criticized by people whom Lalu Prasad made ministers and MPs in his political life,” he said.

Referring to recent incidents of bulldozers being used in anti-encroachment drives across the state, Mr. Yadav said, “Today, poor people’s houses are bulldozed and the government is doing all this to divert people’s attention from the real problems.”

On the issue of corruption, security cover and withdrawal of official residence from parents, Mr. Yadav said they “don’t need security but people’s trust”. “Other leaders like Chirag Paswan, Jitan Ram Manjhi, Upendra Kushwaha’s families also have official residences and even those who are not entitled to it also have government residences. If my parents were chief ministers of the state and also held other constitutional posts, then they would also have been given government residences as per rules and regulations. Why is there politics in this,” he asked.

He also accused the NDA government of “protecting big ministers and officials in recent corruption cases of the state”.

Mr. Yadav further appealed to the party workers and leaders to strengthen the party up to the booth level. “Elections cannot be won just because of crowd gathering but the party organization should be strengthened at the booth level as well. Only Tejashwi Yadav cannot do anything; every party leader and worker has to work hard; only then the government will be formed and all party workers will get due respect. It requires discipline and patience,” he said.
