Mumbai young batsman Angkrish Raghuvanshi has been quietly adding a new dimension to his game during the Vijay Hazare Trophy, spending time taking wicket practice on the sidelines. The opener, who has been between runs in the 50-over format, admitted that he enjoys the challenges of wicketkeeping.
Angkrish represents Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League, a franchise that will be coached by Abhishek Nayar this season. Nayar was also Raghuvanshi’s long-time mentor and played a key role in his development in the age group and domestic ranks.
KKR did not invest in a high-profile Indian wicketkeeper in the recent IPL auction. With Angkrish putting in the work behind the stumps during the Vijay Hazare Trophy, questions naturally arose as to whether the franchise could back the young batsman to take up the role full-time in the future.
“I’m really enjoying keeping up. It’s challenging but it makes you feel like you’re always in the game,” said the Under-19 World Cup winner.
When asked directly if wicketkeeping could be part of his long-term plans with KKR, Angkrish chose to keep his cards close to his chest.
“You’ll find out in time,” he said with a smile.
The youngster also spoke about sharing the field and wicket with Rohit Sharma during Mumbai’s match against Sikkim. In the opening match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Rohit lit up the stands with a sensational century and reminded fans of his class in the format.
Angkrish played a supporting role in the opening stand of 141 runs, contributing 38 runs of his own and describing the experience as surreal.
“Out of a 141-run stand, I got 40. Just singles, hitting and watching him bat from the other end, it was like a movie,” said Raghuvanshi, his big smile reflecting the moment.

The Vijay Hazare Trophy is scheduled to last until January 18. Angkrish will take a break after the tournament and will return during IPL 2026, which tentatively starts on March 26.
