Unveiling a murder conspiracy behind the death of a logistics manager, the Medipally police arrested three persons, including the deceased’s wife, for allegedly strangulating them at their residence in East Brundavan Colony, Boduppal.
The accused have been identified as J. Purnima, 36, wife of late VJ Ashok, Paleti Mahesh, 22, a construction worker, and Bhukya Sai Kumar alias Sai, 22, a student. Police said Ashok, 45, worked as a logistics manager at Srinidhi University.
According to the police, Purnima filed a complaint on December 12 stating that her husband was found unconscious in the washroom of their house and was later declared brought dead at a government hospital in Malkajgiri. The case was registered and an investigation started.
During the investigation, the police noticed injuries on the face and neck of the deceased, which led to the suspicion of the cause of death. Examination of the camera footage and analysis of technical evidence subsequently led to the arrest of the three accused.
Police said investigations revealed that Purnima had developed an illicit relationship with Mahesh, who used to stay in the same colony. Ashok reportedly suspected the relationship and frequently questioned her. Subsequently, Purnima and Mahesh allegedly conspired to eliminate him and roped in Sai for help.
On December 11, at about 6:15 p.m., after Ashok returned home from work, Mahesh and Sai allegedly grabbed him and assaulted him while Purnima held his legs. Mahesh is said to have strangled Ashok with three chunnis, causing his death. The defendant later changed the deceased’s clothes and disposed of the incriminating items in an attempt to destroy the evidence. Purnima reportedly informed relatives that Ashok had died of a heart attack.
The police seized a phone allegedly used by Mahesh, three blood-stained chunnis, other blood-stained clothes, broken teeth of the deceased, a pen with incriminating photos and videos and a two-wheeler used by Sai.
The case was amended to include charges of murder and criminal conspiracy. All three accused were arrested and remanded in judicial custody. Police said further investigations are underway and efforts are being made to strengthen the case with scientific and forensic evidence.
