Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa’s Empty Nest Life: A New Chapter
Mark Consuelos and his wife, Kelly Ripa, are embracing their new life as empty nesters—perhaps a little too enthusiastically.
“It’s great,” Consuelos, 53, shared during a February 27 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! alongside his 54-year-old wife. “Their [rooms] are pretty much as they left them, but I’ve been walking in and using their bathrooms.”
The couple, who have been married since 1996, are parents to three children: sons Michael, 27, and Joaquin, 22, and daughter Lola, 23. Consuelos explained his reasoning for using their kids’ private spaces with a touch of humor.
“Well, because we paid for the house, and I never sat there,” he said. “I wanted to sit there.”
Ripa, on the other hand, joked about her appreciation for the extra bathroom space. “I’m grateful for one,” she quipped. “That’s why we moved out!”
The couple currently resides in New York City, where they co-host their daily talk show, Live with Kelly and Mark. They raised their family in the Big Apple before their children left for college and other pursuits.
Ripa has grown particularly attached to their home. “I don’t want to sound morbid, but they’ll have to get me out of here first because I’ve gotten so comfortable in this house,” she told Architectural Digest in December 2024 while showcasing their luxurious townhouse. “When I first saw the house, I thought, ‘It’s perfect, just give me a toothbrush.’”
Consuelos, however, needed a bit more convincing before fully embracing the property. “We needed a place for all the scooters, bikes, and sports equipment,” he explained to AD.
The couple has since renovated their home, even adding a cigar room for Consuelos, who starred in Riverdale. Now, the space feels truly personalized.
“I really feel at home here,” Consuelos shared, noting that the hallway outside their primary bedroom features artwork made up of their children’s eyes. “They no longer live here, so when we walk out of our bedroom, it feels like they’re still with us.”
Ripa echoed the sentiment, adding that she could “stare at their children’s eyes forever.” She also reflected on how sharing a closet and bathroom with Consuelos has kept their lifestyle in check.
“I feel like we live well together,” she said. “[Sharing those spaces has] forced us to be very thoughtful about what we buy, wear what we have, and avoid unnecessary clutter. It keeps us honest.”
As they navigate this new chapter, Consuelos and Ripa are finding joy in the little things—like reclaiming their kids’ bathrooms and cherishing the memories their home holds.
