Story so far: The National Conference (NC), which has ruled Jammu and Kashmir for around four decades, witnessed a rare political upheaval on October 30. A four-hour meeting of at least 17 party legislators was held at the residence of Qaiser Jamshed Lone, a two-time lawmaker from Lolab constituency in north Kashmir.
The meeting assumed significance as the NC old guard and loyal supporters of NC President Farooq Abdullah were among those who publicly expressed displeasure over a series of events within the party. Among the senior legislators were prominent faces like Hasnain Masoodi, Mubarak Gul, Nazir Gurezi, Abdul Majeed Larmi and Hilal Lone.
