Why José Mourinho may not become Real Madrid’s next manager despite his appointment being confirmed by Florentino Perez

Jose Mourinho and Real Madrid NEW DELHI: The prospect of Jose Mourinho’s sensational return to Real Madrid has sparked excitement among fans, but the Portuguese coach’s return may depend on more than the club’s wishes.Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has publicly stated that Mourinho is his preferred choice to take over at the Santiago Bernabeu should he secure another term as club president. However, with the presidential election still ahead, all plans for the veteran manager remain tied to the outcome of that vote.Perez made the revelation as he outlined his vision for the club after a disappointing campaign that ended without silverware. As well as discussing potential squad additions, he named Mourinho as one of his priority appointments should he remain in charge. The 79-year-old also confirmed that Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate is part of his future plans. The France international is expected to be available when his current contract expires and Pérez believes he could strengthen Madrid’s backline.“We are working on all these signings. I can assure you that if I remain president of Real Madrid, one of the best defenders in the world, Konate, will be playing for Real Madrid from next season. And he would not be the only top defender to join us if I remain at the helm of Real Madrid,” he said.

Jose Mourinho’s return depends on the outcome of the election

While Perez’s support is significant, Mourinho’s appointment is not guaranteed unless the long-serving president retains his position. The former Real Madrid boss remains one of the most successful and respected managers in world football, having guided the club to a memorable La Liga title during his previous tenure between 2010 and 2013.Perez explained his choice: “Mourinho is one of the best coaches in the world and during his time with us he was very important for Real Madrid. He was the coach of that famous record league season. He brought the team to a very high level of competitiveness and that was very important for everything that was achieved after that. Mourinho and Konate are my first signings.”Perez also dismissed speculation over Vinicius Junior’s future, insisting: “Vinicius is one of the best players in the world and he is delighted to be a Madrid player. He has been instrumental in winning the last two European Cups and has one year left on his contract. There is still time, but I am telling you that Vinicius wants to stay at Madrid and I want him to stay.”
