Why is KL Rahul not playing the second ODI match against England? India revealed the reason

India have made one change to their playing XI for the second ODI against England after KL Rahul was ruled out of the wicket due to illness. Ishan Kishan returned to the side as his replacement after England won the toss and opted to start at Edgbaston on Wednesday.

Skipper Shubman Gill said India would have opted to bat first as well but was happy with the team’s performance in the series opener where they secured a comfortable win.

“We would also be looking first. We had a near perfect game in the last game and hopefully we can do it again today,” Gill said at the draw. “KL is sick so he misses out and Ishan Kishan is coming back.

Gill credited India’s fast bowlers for turning the game around after England threatened to build momentum during the powerplay.

“We had a good six or seven overs in the power bowl before they put us under pressure. The way the fast bowlers came back and picked up wickets in the middle overs was tremendous to see,” he said.

The India captain was also looking forward to returning to familiar surroundings, having previously represented Glamorgan in county cricket.

England captain Harry Brook said the hosts decided to bowl after assessing the surface.

“There’s a nice even spread of grass. Hopefully we can move the seams a little bit and swing forward,” Brook said. “We need to perform a bit better. We fought well in the last game to get it deep and we want the same.”

England made two changes, bringing on Gus Atkinson and Saqib Mahmood in place of Josh Tongue and Liam Dawson as they added more pace to their attack.
