Liverpool have made significant progress in their pursuit of Premier League success under Arne Slot, and their journey for continental glory is set to continue.
The Reds were dominant throughout the new Champions League league phase, suffering only one defeat on Matchday 8 after already securing their place in the round of 16.
However, their reward for finishing top of the group was far from favorable. Instead of a clash with Benfica, Liverpool will face one of Europe’s in-form teams, Paris Saint-Germain, in a two-legged tie.
Last month, it was revealed that Slot will serve a two-game touchline ban following his conduct towards referee Michael Oliver after a recent Merseyside derby draw. Despite this, the Dutchman will be present in the away dugout at the Parc des Princes when Liverpool take on PSG this week.
The FA deliberated for several weeks after Slot was sent off by referee Oliver following the full-time whistle, ultimately handing him a two-game suspension and a £70,000 fine. Assistant coach Sipke Hulshoff received the same ban but was fined £7,000.
As a result, both were absent from the touchline during Liverpool’s Premier League match against Newcastle last Wednesday and will also miss the upcoming game against Southampton on March 8.
However, between these domestic fixtures, Liverpool will travel to Paris for the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie. Since the suspension was imposed by the FA, it does not extend to UEFA competitions, meaning Slot will be free to lead the team in Europe.
The Liverpool manager will return to the touchline for domestic action in the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle at Wembley Stadium on March 16.
