
Bombay: The award -winning photographer of wild animals and veteran journalist Sunjoy Mongga was supposed to go in Lokhandwale this weekend. Unfortunately, he died on Wednesday 30 May and succumbed to a nine -year battle with blood cancer.
Sunjoy Monga was 63 years old. His death left lovers of nature and activists in a deep shock. In addition to his award-winning photographs, Sunjoy Monga also left his tracks in “Bird Race”-a recovery event for birds’ score, which over the years inspired love for birds among hundreds of bombaikar.
Bird race in Mumbai
In 2005, Mongga launched the first bird race in Mumbai-Constitution, which has since become an annual tradition known as “Wings-Birds of India”.
Mong’s idea of the opening of the bird race was inspired by the Hong Kong bird race. Within the Mumbai race, Mongga invited bird observers to give 12 hours of observation as possible bird species.
The inauguration race saw that around 100 enthusiasts record 277 different species in and its surroundings. Since then, Mongga has expanded the event to 33 cities throughout India, while tradition is still prospering.
How did Sunjoy Monga start watching birds?
According to experts, Sunjoy Mongga launched his way of watching birds with other important names in the field, such as Humayun Abdulali and Salim Ali.
“A great tree fell,” said Pravin Subramanian, who has organized a bird race from Mongg since 2007, HT. “At that time, there were only two books that could follow bird enthusiasts. Mongga filled this emptiness by writing comprehensible books for all,” added the co -organizer of the bird race.
Mong’s career
Sunjoy Monga has served for several years on the Board of Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), as evidenced by his deep -rooted expertise as natural scientists.
The knowledge and passion of the Monga for the environment made it a valuable contributor to several key bodies for nature conservation. The 63 -year -old man was also a member of the MMRDA Environment Improvement Society, Maharashtra Nature Park Society, and also held an honorary place of supervisor in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park.
