Journalist Al Jazeera Anas Al-Sharif was reportedly killed with four colleagues in a targeted Israeli attack on a tent journalist in Gaza. Up to seven people were killed in an attack on a tent outside the main gate of the Al-Shif hospital on Sunday evening.
Who was Anas Al-Shaarif?
Anas Al-Shaarif, 28, was among a group of four journalists Al Jazeera and an assistant who died on a strike in a tent near the SHIFA hospital in East Gaza, said Gaza and Al Jazeera officials.
Al Sharif, whose account X showed more than 500,000 followers, published on the platform minutes before his death, that Israel had intensively bombed the city of Gaza for more than two hours.
Journalist or terrorist Hamas?
The Israeli army quoted news and documents found in Gaza as evidence and claimed that Al Sharif was the head of Hamas cell and “was responsible for progress in missile attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF (Israeli) soldiers”.
However, the Committee on the Protection of Journalists (CPJ) stated that Israel did not provide any evidence to support their accusations against it.
“The Israeli pattern of marketing journalists as militants without providing credible evidence raises serious questions about its intention and respect for freedom of the press,” said Sara Qudah, CPJ director for the Middle East and North Africa.
He called Al Sharif “One of Gaza’s most daring journalists,” Al Jazeera said that the attack “is a desperate attempt to silence voices in anticipation of the occupation of the Gaza”.
“Anas Al Sharif and his colleagues were among the last remaining voices in Gaza, which handed over the tragic reality to the world,” Al Jazeera said.
The Freedom Freedom Freedom and UN expert had previously warned that Al Sharif’s life was in danger of gazing messages. UN Special Newsletter Inene Khan said last month that Israeli claims against him were unquestionable
Meanwhile, Al Jazeera announced that the al-Shaariff had left the message of social media to be published in the case of his death, which read: “… I never hesitate to tell the truth as it is, without distortion or distortion in the hope that God will witness those who were silent.”
