
NEW DELHI: Indian boxer Vishvanath Suresh produced a stunning performance at the Asian Boxing Championships in Ulaanbaatar, shocking the boxing world with a knockout over reigning world champion and world number one Sanzhar Tashkenbay. Who is Vishvanath Suresh?
Vishvanath, now 21, hails from Chennai and has quickly emerged as one of India’s most exciting boxing talents. He entered 2026 as the national champion after a dominant run at the National Elite Men’s Boxing Championship where he defeated Rishi Singh 5-0 in the final.His journey began with a strong youth career, winning gold at both the 2022 IBA World Youth Championships and the Asian Youth Championships. He went on to build on this success with bronze at the 2024 Asian U-22 Championship and another gold at the 2025 Federation Cup.Vishvanath, who is now competing at the senior level, has shown that he can take on top opponents. His biggest moment came in Ulaanbaatar, where he stunned top-ranked Tashkenbay with a knockout, proving his ability in elite competition.Known for his speed, sharp technique and clever tactics, he became a fierce competitor in the flyweight division.
