Sébastien Lecorn (born June 11, 1986) is a French politician and member of the Renaissance party of President Emmanuel Macron, known for his Gaullist, Séguinist and socially conservative inclination. In September 2025 he was appointed Prime Minister of France, only to resign after 26 days – the shortest premiere in the history of the French Fifth Republic.
Early Life and Education
Lecorn was born in Eaubonne in Val-D’Oise and was brought up in a modest household-his father aeron engineer and his mother by a medical secretary. Lecorn, deeply influenced by his Gaullist grandfather, a World War II fighter, developed an early passion for the army and politics. He studied the right to Panthéon-Assas University, although his claim to hold a master’s degree was later questioned.
He briefly explored the monastic life before joining politics at a young age. In 2005, only 19, he worked as a parliamentary assistant and later worked as a advisor to Bruno Le Maire in the government of François Fillon.
The rise of local policy
Lecorn was elected mayor of Vernon in 2014 and in 2015 he became president of the EURE Council. He built a reputation as a strict financial management, contradictory increases in taxes and focus on fraud with good life conditions. His policies, such as the closure of subsoil schools, attracted support and criticism.
Entry into national policy
Initially, Lecorn broke the party with the party in 2017 after joining Emmanuel Macron. Was gradually appointed:
-Secretary of the State for Ecological Transition (2017–2018) -manipulation with nuclear energy and waste policy.
-Minister for local authorities (2018–2020)-after the yellow vest crisis led the “large national debate”.
-Minister of the Oversteas (2020–2022)-navigated the riots in Guadeloupe during the Covid-19 pandemic.
-Minister of the Armed Forces (2022–2025) -Looking at record military budgets, arms shops and deployment of soldiers abroad.
Military and defensive guidance
As Minister of Defense Lecorn, he promoted the main support of military expenditure and proposed 413 billion euros for 2024-2030 to modernize the French armed forces, expanded the advance numbers and finance the new aircraft carrier. He also signed defense agreements with Poland and supported Ukraine, while warning against logistics tribes in the vans of French tanks and artillery.
Premiership in 2025
September 9, 2025, President Macron appointed the Prime Minister Lecorn after François Bayra lost the vote of non -binding. Lecorn was originally considered a stabilizer and moved rapidly to abolish unpopular reforms such as Bayrou’s proposed changes in public holidays, and undertake to end lifelong benefits for former ministers.
But his government was cold before it could form. Only 26 days later, 6 October, resigned – eliminated his term shortest in modern French history.
