Randy Fine, a Republican US congressman, is facing criticism and calls for his resignation after he claimed he would choose dogs over Muslims. Fine commented in a post on social media, saying: “If they make us choose, choosing between dogs and Muslims is not difficult.”
Fine’s post was in response to Nerdeen Kiswani, a New York-based Palestinian activist, who said in a social media post last week: “Finally, NYC is coming to Islam. Dogs definitely have a place in society, just not as pets. Like we’ve been saying all along, they’re unclean.”
“My post was in response to a prominent Muslim leader who said dogs should be banned from New York because some Muslims don’t like it. If they make us choose between our dogs and them going home, the choice is easy,” Fine said.
After the controversy, Kiswani clarified that her comments were meant as a joke.
Who is Randy Fine?
Fine, 51, is a first-time U.S. congressman and represents Florida’s 6th congressional district. He also previously served as a member of the Florida Senate and House of Representatives.
Fine, the tough Jew has a long history of making anti-Palestinian and anti-Muslim remarks.
Past controversial comments against Muslims
In December 2025, Fine called for a “Muslim travel ban” and the “radical deportation of all mainstream Muslim legal and illegal immigrants”. Declaring that “mainstream Muslims have declared war on us”, Fine also called for their citizenship to be revoked whenever possible.
Fine also attacked Congresswomen Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, calling them “Muslim terrorists.” He also suggested that Omar, who was born in Somalia, be deported.
He also caused controversy by suggesting that the US use nuclear weapons in Gaza.
The Democrats hit the fine
California Governor Gavin Newsom called for Fine’s resignation in response to Fine’s latest post.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said Congress must not tolerate Fine’s hateful rhetoric.
“House Democrats will not let Randy Fine’s racist and bigoted behavior go unchecked. Accountability is coming to all of these sick extremists when the gavel changes hands in November, if not sooner,” Jeffries said in a statement.
