
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Pravesh Wahi, was elected as the Mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Wednesday. Wahi, councilor from Rohini East, won with 156 votes, including support from 14 councilors of the Indraprastha Vikas Party, while Congress candidate Hazi Zaraf got nine votes.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA from Anand Vihar Monika Pant was elected deputy mayor after also getting 156 votes.
Who is Pravesh Wahi?
Wahi is from a Khatri Punjabi family that migrated from Rawalpindi. He received his early education at MCD Primary School in Old Delhi and according to many reports, was associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) from his teenage years.
Wahi worked as an area representative for the Vishva Hindu Parishad in 1990 and later became the district president in 1998. He joined the BJP Yuva Morcha in 2002 and took up several organizational duties before entering electoral politics.
