
Originally from India, Karan Gupta, Senior Director of Data Analytics at Optum Inc. in Minnesota, USA, was convicted of stealing more than $1 million from the company. He was found guilty after a six-day trial on multiple counts, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said.
They include fraud and money laundering conspiracy for hiring an unqualified friend for a position where the friend did not work and paying half of his undeserved salary in kickbacks to Gupta, whose fraud totaled more than $1.2 million.

Karan Gupta, 47, was a senior executive at Optum, a subsidiary of United Health Group, the United States Attorney’s Office said in a Feb. 18 statement.
The statement claimed that according to court documents and evidence presented in court, Gupta was the senior director of data analytics at Optum, Inc., a Minnesota-based subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group.
At Optum, Gupta earned an annual salary of more than $260,000 at the peak of his career, the statement added.
