Edward Nathan Varghese, a final year computer engineering student, has set a new milestone at the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) by bagging a record job offer worth ₹2.5 million in Optiver, an international trading company based in the Netherlands.
Varghese is set to join the company in July, the Times of India reported
This is said to be the highest salary package secured at the institute since its inception in 2008.
Varghese told TOI that the moment he learned about the offer was a moment he would never forget. “It was the first and only company I interviewed for. I was ecstatic when my mentor indicated that the company would extend my offer. My parents were too,” he said.
Varghese mentioned that he is confident that the IIT brand will continue to attract recruiters to the campus.
“I knew the impact of the current job market would be minimal. I also did competitive programming from my first year of engineering and was among the top 100 in the country,” he further said.
He credited the flexible academic structure of IIT Hyderabad for his success and noted that the freedom to choose from a wide range of courses helped him perform well in the interview process. Varghese, whose parents are both engineers, added that he was lucky to get a pre-placement offer (PPO).
The summer internship at the company consisted of two weeks of training followed by a six-week project.

A native of Hyderabad, Varghese, 21, continued his schooling in Bengaluru from Class 7 to Class 12. Despite the broader slowdown in the job market, he said he remains confident of securing a first-class offer.
In 2022, he got All India Rank (AIR) 1100 in JEE Main and AIR 558 in JEE Advanced. He scored an impressive percentile of 99.96 in the 2025 Common Admission Test (CAT) and secured an all-India rank of 120. According to his LinkedIn profile, Varghese of the Office at HyIT Services was the overall head of HyIT Services. eight student managers and 250 coordinators across various cells who oversee placements and internships.
Prior to this role, he worked as an Internship Cell Coordinator for almost eleven months.
Varghese will reportedly join Optiver’s Dutch office as a full-time employee.
