Akoijam denies sexual assault. Here is what he said
Angomcha Congress MP Bimol Akoijam on Tuesday strongly criticized the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) administration for handling the sexual harassment inquiry against him.
He claimed serious procedural errors, media leaks and legal violations following his recall.
According to ANI, Akoijam accused the JNU administration of not providing him with a copy of the inquiry report, which he said was necessary to exercise his right to appeal.
He also objected to a breach of confidentiality provisions under Section 16 of the POSH Act when he claimed that his identity had been prematurely disclosed.
He called the university’s Internal Grievance Committee (ICC) a “khap panchayat”. On the FIR against him, For Akoi he said, “That’s good. The merits of the case can be discussed in court, rather than the ‘khap panchayat’ in JNU.”
He dismissed the ‘s*x for marks’ allegation and told ANI, “…I have seen how people in the North East treat us. I keep asking, would they have done this if it was a powerful minister, MP or MLA from the so-called mainstream. They said I asked s*x for marks. Is it in their leaked allegations too? It’s not in the complaint; it’s not there.”
“They say 11. There are 15, out of 97 students, including boys. Can boys be complainants under the POSH Act? This is a complete mockery of the system that is in place to protect and implement gender justice…,” the Congresswoman said on Tuesday.
He blurted out, “This is utter madness; I am very angry now. Because this kind of injustice is allowed day after day. I will go back to Manipur, I will die for my condition.”
He said he would return to Manipur “after serving this country for so long.” He warned, “I have to find my own roots here. If you think you can treat me like this after serving this country, then you will see the consequences.”
“Sex for Grades”, “Shameless Lie”
Akoijam had previously posted a lengthy message on X saying that the accusation of “sex for marks” “is not even contained in a politically motivated complaint against a witch.”
He accused the JNU VC of telling a “blatant lie.” He wrote: “I replied to my written response to the charges on 31 May 2026 and my statement on 16 July 2026 and yet the VC says I have not cooperated!”
“By the way, what is the number of the complainant? 2 or 3 or 11 or 13 (according to VC) or 12 or 15 or 16? Nasty liars!!!!,” Akoijam wrote on X.
On Wednesday, a high-level delegation of the BJP Mahila Morcha, led by its national president and MP Roop Kumari Choudhary, met NCW president Vijaya K. Rahatkar and submitted a memorandum demanding action against Congress MP Bimol Akoijam in the alleged sexual harassment case.
Following this, a group of people, mainly youth, staged a rally towards the BJP office in Manipur, protesting the sexual harassment allegations against Congress MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam. Demonstrators holding placards reading “We support a decent leader” condemned the allegations.
One protester said, “We strongly condemn the allegations against Akoijam. The youth is behind Akoijam. BJP is targeting him because he stood up for Manipur. To suppress him is to suppress the state. Don’t politicize this issue,” said one protester.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has issued a formal notice to Congress MP Angomch Bimol Akoijam, asking him to join the probe into the sexual harassment allegations leveled against him. Cops from the Vasant Kunj North police station reportedly pasted a notice outside the Congress MP’s residence in New Delhi, ordering him to join the inquiry under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
