Nick Reiner, the son of slain Hollywood couple Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer, will not appear in court on Tuesday because he has not been medically cleared.
Earlier reports indicated that the 32-year-old man would be arraigned in Los Angeles on Tuesday to face charges of murdering his parents, whose bodies were discovered with stab wounds at their LA residence on Sunday.
The latest information on the case comes from Nick’s lawyer, Alan Jackson, who declined to provide further details about why the director’s son was not medically cleared for trial.
While Nick did not appear in court, Jackson’s appearance on his behalf became the story itself.
Who is Alan Jackson?
When Alan Jackson was spotted in a fifth-floor courtroom in Los Angeles, reporters gathered to document Nick Reiner’s appearance hearing immediately recognized the attorney as one of Los Angeles’ most famous defense attorneys.
Jackson confirmed to reporters in court that he would represent Nick in the murder case, adding another major legal tussle to his already stellar career.
Partner at Werksman Jackson & Quinn LLP, a criminal defense attorney who gained notoriety after securing the acquittal of Karen Read in a murder trial over the death of her boyfriend, police officer John O’Keefe.
Despite allegations of foul play, Jackson helped clear Read of the murder charge by dissecting the credibility of witness statements and court claims against her.
Read was ultimately found not guilty of murder. Instead, she received the standard sentence of one year of probation after being found guilty of driving under the influence.
While the Karen Read case catapulted Jackson to stardom, he has also previously represented several high-profile clients, including but not limited to convicted pedophile Harvey Weinstein and Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey accused of sexual misconduct.
In the Weinstein case, where Jackson and his attorney Mark Werksman represented the disgraced Hollywood mogul in a rape trial, both attorneys failed, and a jury returned guilty verdicts in December 2022 on counts of rape and other sexual assault.
In Spacey’s case, Jackson oversaw the dismissal of groping charges against the actor.
Jackson is also known for securing the conviction of famed record producer Phil Spector for the murder of actor Lana Clarkson.
