Peace talks in Gaza: As delegations from Israel and Hamas convene in Egypt to negotiate the end of the ongoing conflict in Gaza, the leadership of the interviews turned to the figures: Ron Dermer for Israel and Khalil al-Hayya for Hamas.
Ron Dermer, 54, has been running Israel’s negotiating teams since February. It serves as the Minister of Strategic Affairs of the country and is widely considered one of the closest and most trusted advisors to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Dermer was born and grew up on Miami Beach, Florida, which served as the mayor, cultivated strong ties with American politicians, especially in the Republican side. He previously worked as an Israeli ambassador in the US from 2013 to 2021.
Dermer’s influence exceeds conventional diplomacy. The American and Israeli media quoted him as a key strategist behind important initiatives, including efforts to normalize Israeli ties with the Arab states. In Egypt, Dermer is expected to remain in line with the vision of Netanyahu for Gaza.
Hamas’s delegation head is Khalil al-Hayya, 64, the highest surviving member of the group outside Gaza. Al-Hayya recently survived the Israeli attempt at the assassination of Qatar, during which Israel launched targeted air strikes.
Al-Hayya was born in Gaza and has long been a member of Hamas’s Politburo and in 2006 he was elected to the Palestinian Legislative Council. In the past he endured several attempts to assassinate and in the past was detained by Israel.
The head of Hamas suffered personal losses in the ongoing conflict, including the death of his son Homam and his office director of Southada Labada in Israeli strikes on Doha. He spoke publicly on Saturday and said:
“What I see every day of killing and destruction in Gaza makes me forget the pain of losing my children and loved ones.”
Al-Hayya has led the Hamas negotiating team in several previous interviews and will defend Arab and Muslim support because the mediators are trying to secure a ceasefire.
Jared Kushner: Representation of Trump and USA
The United States representing the United States on interviews is Jared Kushner, the son -in -law of President Trump, along with the special ambassador Steve Witkoff. Kushner has played a central role in previous Middle East-East-East initiatives, and is expected to strive for rapid progress in the 20-point Plan of Trump, which includes questionable proposals such as Hamas.
What to know about today’s interviews in Gaza in Egypt
The delegations from Israel and Hamas meet with the aim of discussing the plan of ending the war in Gaza.
The meeting follows Hamas’s agreement with certain provisions of the Peace Proposal Donald Trump, although the Palestinian group did not commit to disarming, one of the key points in the plan.
Since the interviews have to develop, the results will be carefully monitored, and both Dermer and Al-Hayya play a key role in shaping the future of Gaza and the wider region.
