White House shooting renews panic — Here’s how many shootings, assassination attempts Trump has survived since 2024 | Today’s news

A gunman, identified as 21-year-old Nasire Best, opened fire on Saturday, May 23, at a White House security checkpoint near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW.

According to the US Secret Service, the person approached the checkpoint, “pulled a gun from a bag and began shooting at the dispatched officers,” prompting officers to return fire. He later died of his injuries in hospital.

A bystander was also hit, but a law enforcement official said it was unclear whether that person was hit by the suspect’s initial bullets or by those subsequently fired by officers.

The Secret Service said none of its officers were injured and that US President Donald Trump, who was in the White House at the time, was “not hit”.

It was the third shooting in Trump’s neighborhood in the past month. Since 2024, Trump has faced an unprecedented series of serious security breaches, including two confirmed assassination attempts and several high-profile shooting incidents.

Butler Rally Assassination Attempt — July 13, 2024

During an outdoor campaign in Butler, Pennsylvania, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire with an AR-15-style rifle from a nearby rooftop. According to the FBI, the sniper climbed onto the roof of a building located outside the security cordon, roughly 400 feet from the stage.

Trump was hit and injured in his upper right ear. He was seen leaving the stage with streaks of blood on the side of his face.

One rally attendee, former volunteer fire chief Corey Comperatore, was killed and two others were seriously injured. Secret Service snipers killed the shooter at the scene.

West Palm Beach Golf Club Incident — September 15, 2024

Trump survived a second attempt on his life while playing golf at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida.

A Secret Service agent allegedly spotted a rifle barrel poking through the brush along the perimeter fence and fired at suspect Ryan Wesley Routh.

He allegedly set up a makeshift sniper’s nest with a GoPro camera and other items a few hours before the attack. Routh fled the scene without firing a shot from the vehicle, but was quickly apprehended by local law enforcement.

Trump was unhurt. Routh was later convicted and sentenced to life in prison.

Mar-a-Lago Perimeter Breach — February 22, 2026

The gunman, identified as Austin Tucker Martin, was shot and killed after breaching the outer security perimeter of Mar-a-Lago, President Donald Trump’s Palm Beach, Florida resort.

A US Secret Service spokesman said he soon arrived at the secure perimeter at Mar-a-Lago and walked through the gate as it opened for staff to leave.

Trump, who often spends weekends at the Palm Beach resort, was in the White House at the time.

White House Correspondents’ Dinner Attack – April 25, 2026

During the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, one of the most important annual events, at the Washington Hilton, 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen allegedly stormed a security checkpoint.

He was allegedly armed with guns and knives when he went through security and pointed his weapon at the officer, who fired five times without hitting anyone, authorities said.

A Secret Service officer was shot once while wearing a body armor during the attack.

Trump and the first lady were immediately evacuated from the ballroom without injury.

Allen was charged with trying to kill Trump and two others with firearms. If convicted only of attempted murder, he faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
