Where is your chit now? Sunil Gavaskar mocks LSG’s Aakash Singh on live TV

Sunil Gavaskar criticized Lucknow Super Giants pacer Aakash Singh on live television during the IPL 2026 clash against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on Tuesday, May 19. The former India captain questioned the young fast bowler’s celebrations after enduring a difficult outing while defending a mammoth 220.

Aakash Singh conceded 54 runs in just three overs despite picking up the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal, as Rajasthan Royals kept themselves alive in the play-off race with an aggressive chase at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

Gavaskar’s remarks came as teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi dismantled the LSG bowling attack with a breathtaking stroke play. Gavaskar seemed unfazed by Singh’s earlier celebrations and referred to the now-viral ‘chit celebration’ the pacer performed on his IPL debut against Chennai Super Kings.

“Where’s the chit now, it’s in the pocket isn’t it? Where’s the chit? I like a bit of humility,” Gavaskar said in a commentary during the game. “In an over, you get a wicket maybe in one ball. Five balls you are bowled. He gave 48 runs in 17 deliveries.”

Aakash Singh became an overnight talking point earlier in the season during his debut appearance against Chennai Super Kings where he returned figures of 3/26 in four overs. After each goal, the pacemaker pulled out a folded chip with his left arm out of his pocket and displayed it around the stadium. Later, Singh clarified that the celebration was not aimed at anyone and was more of a personal source of motivation.

However, against Rajasthan Royals, Singh opted for a different kind of celebration after dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal. The index finger pointed to his head and then raised his other hand to the sky – a gesture somewhat reminiscent of footballer Marcus Rashford’s celebration.

The match carried major play-off implications for Rajasthan Royals, who came into the competition needing a win after losing to Delhi Capitals in their previous match. Chasing 221, Rajasthan found momentum through the teenage batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi who created a sensational counter attack with a stunning 38 ball 93.

Sooryavanshi’s intrepid batting kept Rajasthan firmly in the chase and put Lucknow’s bowlers under immense pressure despite a formidable target. The young batsman’s innings once again underlined his growing reputation as one of the breakout stars of IPL 2026.
