
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Tuesday that Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains will launch operations as soon as the second train is ready for regular service.
The train is ready to launch in Shakur Basti Coaching Depot in Delhi after completing the basic tests, PTI reported to cite officials.
Vaishnaw mentioned that the second train is currently in production and can be completed by October 15, 2025.
“Both trains will be launched together,” he said in the media briefing.
The Minister stressed that the second train is essential to maintain the continuity of regular services.
“That’s why we are waiting for the second rake. As soon as we get it, we will decide on any route and start operations,” Vaishnaw said.
There are widespread speculations that trains will be introduced between the new Delhi and Mr., because Bihar is preparing for elections at the end of this year.
Rail projects in the pandjab
The Minister’s statement comes as Vaishnaw, along with the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Railways Ravneet Singh Bitt, provided the media update about the current and future rail projects in Pandjab.
They reported that the upcoming 18 kilometers of Rajpura-Mohali would connect the area with Chandigarh the shortest way along the main line of Ambala-Amritsar.
The railway connection determines the direct connection between the Rajpura and Mohali and its aim is to reduce the distance of travel by approximately 66 kilometers. It is also expected that the operation on the existing Rajpura-Ambal route and shortening the Ambala-Morinda link will be shortened.
Vaishnaw mentioned that the Ministry of Railway plans to introduce a new Vande Bharat train that connects the new Delhi and Firozpur Cantonment. The route will include stations such as Faridkot, Bhatina (W), Dhuri, Patiala, Ambala Cantonment, Kurukshetra and Panipat.
The railway said the train would travel 486 kilometers from Delhi to Cantonment in 6 hours and 40 minutes.
“I will ask the Prime Minister to approve the company Firozpur-Delhi Vande Bharat,” Vaishnaw said.
Ministers announced nine major railway projects that have been introduced since 2014.
