“Is that for me?” Pope Francis asked and reached for Peru with a flash in his eye. The unforgettable moment lives in the heart of Fr. Paul Poovathingal, known as a singing priest who had a rare honor to personally introduce his musical album Sarvesha Pope.
The meeting with the Pope took place on November 14, 2024 in the Papal Hall in the Vatican, during the International Seminar organized by the Vatican. From 7.30 to 9:30, Fr. Poovathingal, along with the violinist and friend Manoj George, waited among the crowd more than 300 eager participants who hoped for the Pope.
When it came, Fr. Poovathingal stepped out and expanded a copy of Sarvesha. The Pope, amused and curious, looked at him and asked, “Is it for me?” With a humble “yes” he handed over the album and Pope Francis got him with real joy, according to Fr. POOVATHINGAL.
When he asked if he could autograph the poster of the album, the Pope reached for the pen – the player pretended to be signed by Fr. Poathingal’s hand first – before it breaks into a warm smile and signs the poster. He asked the musicians and offered his blessings a fine hand on their heads.
“It seemed to me as if God had come down to bless us,” Ot. Poovathingal remembered emotions. “These were sacred seconds forever elaborate in our lives.”
At the age of 88, the Pope’s energy was amazing-she had three hundreds per day with heat and grace.
Sarvesha won the Global Music Award.
