
WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new feature for Indian users. This feature is expected to allow users to make bill payments through the messaging platform. In November 2020, WhatsApp introduced the option to use a unified payment interface (UPI) to select users in that country. Recently, the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) removed the UPI entry limit for the Meta-owned platform, allowing it to extend its payment services to all users in India.
WhatsApp users can pay directly soon
WhatsApp is working on a new feature that allows users in India to make bill payments, which Android Authority discovered during the APK demolition. This feature was discovered in development WhatsApp Beta for Android version 2.25.3.15. This shows that the dollar owns the app is looking forward to expanding its financial services in the country.
The report suggests that the new feature may enable users to pay directly through the WhatsApp app. The report added that the categories of payments for bills may include electricity bills, mobile prepaid charging, LPG payments, water bills, water bills, landline postpaid bills and rental payments.
The report says bill payment options are currently being developed, but the activity has been added to the aforementioned beta version of WhatsApp. The release schedule is not clear, but it is expected to be available to India’s beta testers before it is launched on the stable update channel.
The publication shows that the platform may face some regulatory or logistical challenges before the launch of the service in India. WhatsApp currently allows users to pay to contacts and businesses.
The report also noted that the new feature was discovered after NPCI lifted up the boarding cap of WhatsApp Pay on board, and now it can compete directly with PhonePe and Google Pay, such as Phonepe and Google Pay. Last year, the Messager app, which was found to test an option to allow users to pay from the app.
