
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India is creating “future-ready” trade deals with various countries, including the EU and the US, for the benefit of the youth, while underlining the growing global confidence in India.
Responding to the vote of thanks to the President’s address in the Rajya Sabha, PM Modi said that India is a trusted partner of many countries today and is playing its role in the well-being of the world.
PM Modi on recent trade deals
On trade deals, ANI quoted PM Modi as saying, “India is signing future-ready trade deals with several countries. We have had trade deals with nine big and important countries of the world in the last few days. The mother of all deals is with 27 countries, one of which is the European Union.”
He added: “The recently signed trade agreements will greatly benefit our youth. These include young people from rural and urban areas as well as middle-class people – our sons and daughters. The world market is now opening up new opportunities for them. I want to assure our youth that I stand with you, side by side, and that the world is ready to welcome your talents and ambitions.”
Prime Minister Modi said that major countries are very keen on trade relations with India.
“Whether it is the European Union trade agreement or the recent agreement with the US… The whole world openly praises these trade agreements. When we signed the trade agreement with the EU, the world believed more in the greater likelihood of global stability. After the trade agreement with the US, the world believed even more that those with stability also feel speed. This is a positive sign for the world,” he said.
“We are correcting the mistakes of the past,” says PM Modi
Taking a dig at the Congress, Prime Minister Modi said, “Much of our energy is spent on correcting the mistakes of the past. It takes a lot of effort to erase the image that was created in the minds of the world during that period, they left things in such a damaged state. That is why we have laid great emphasis on future-ready policies. PM Modi noted that the first quarter of the 21st century is over and the second quarter will be as crucial as the second quarter of India’s independence movement in the last century.
“When we analyze the current situations and circumstances objectively and without political bias, it is clear that the inclination towards India is growing. Like Vishwamitra and Vishwabandhu, India has become a trusted partner for many countries,” he said.
The Prime Minister said that the country is moving fast in the right direction.
“India is entering into forward-looking trade agreements with many countries around the world. We have recently completed nine such agreements. Of these, the most significant – often referred to as the ‘mother of all agreements’ – was signed with the 27 member states of the European Union,” he said.
Earlier in the day, the Lok Sabha passed the motion of thanks on the President’s speech by voice vote amid sloganeering by opposition members.
