Former India batsman Aakash Chopra analyzed Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s batting technique and explained why it stands out from the rest. On Monday, March 30, Sooryavanshi was at his best as Rajasthan Royals beat Chennai Super Kings by eight wickets to get their Indian Premier League 2026 campaign off to a good start.
Sooryavanshi smashed a 15-ball fifty as Royals chased down 128 with 47 balls to spare. The 15-year-old scored 52 off just 17 deliverieshe hit four fours and five sixes as he continued his remarkable form after registering the fastest century by an Indian in IPL history last season.

Chopra said that Sooryavanshi stands out for its unconventional bat swing, which he described as unlike anything he had seen before. He highlighted the teenager’s unusual arc, incredible wrist work and ability to generate remarkable power against pace, labeling his leg-side shots truly exceptional.
“I actually want to talk about Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and why he’s so different. Normally a batsman lifts the bat in stance and then simply brings it down – that’s the standard way of playing. But if we look at Yashasvi (Jaiswal) and Vaibhav here, Vaibhav lifts the bat, then it goes back up a bit, then the bat comes back, then it goes back, pause’ that way earlier,” Chopra told Star Sports.
“It almost looks like he’s looking at covers, but the back of the bat comes from that angle and then he rotates it before he hits. He’s completely different. I’ve never seen a batsman with that kind of swing. And for someone who’s really into fast bowling, I think the kind of power he generates, especially the way he hits leg, is remarkable,” Chopra said.
“I’ve never seen an arc like that in a bat swing before. It’s not a normal swing at all. He whips it almost like a whip hunter. The wrist work is unbelievable and for a 15-year-old boy, it’s unbelievable,” added Chopra.
Sooryavanshi also scored the joint-third fastest fifty by an Indian in IPL history, equaling Yusuf Pathan’s half-century against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2014. The record is held by Yashasvi Jaiswal with a 13-ball fifty against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2023, followed by KL with 15- in 2018.
Sooryavanshi will now look to continue his impressive streak when Rajasthan Royals take on Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on April 4.
