It prevents several brain -related abilities, including thinking and concentration, memory, movement and more. While its symptoms often resemble dementia, NPH is sometimes reversible.
NPH is most common in people over 65 years and becomes increasingly common, the older a person gets. The average age for starting this condition is around 70 years.
The growing age is the only factor that increases the likelihood of this condition. The likelihood of this happens does not change depending on the ethnicity, race or sex of man.
What happens in NPH?
Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) occurs when cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) accumulates in the brain. CSF is a vital fluid that helps supply nutrients to the brain and remove waste. Your body constantly produces, circulates and reabsorb CSF to maintain a permanent amount.
Although the amount of CSF may seem small, it plays an important role. It surrounds the brain and spinal cord, allowing the brain to float in the skull. It also acts as a pillow, protects the brain and spinal cord from injury.
When the body cannot circulate or absorb CSF properly, the fluid can begin to collect in the brain. While the chambers of the brain can hold some other liquid, too much accumulation leaves no room for it. As the pressure increases, the brain is compressed, leading to symptoms of NPH. If this pressure continues too long, it can cause permanent damage or destruction of brain tissue.

NPH caused Billy Joel significant health challenges, including hearing problems, vision and balance. According to an official statement, these symptoms deteriorated during his recent performances, which forced his medical team to intervene.
