What is the Simla agreement?
The Simla Treaty, a significant peace treaty, was signed between India and Pakistan in Shimle, Himachal Pradesh after the 1971 Pakistan Pakistan War. The war was launched when India hit the struggle for independence in Eastern Pakistan.
The aim of the Simla Agreement was to end the long -term conflict between two neighbors. This agreement also determines the ways that India and Pakistan can “renew and normalize” relationships, starting with renewal of roads, including sea, postal and air connections, between the two countries, support for travel facilities and focus on trade and cooperation between two neighbors.
According to India’s agreement, she returned over 13,000 km² of land she caught during the war. However, India has retained several strategic areas such as Turtuk, Dhothang, Tyakshi and Chalunka.
