India is ready to develop a new initiative for missile defense called “Sudarshan chakra”, which aims to integrate advanced supervision, cyber protection and physical defense mechanisms for the protection of its citizens and critical infrastructure. Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined plans on Friday to the address of Independence Day.
According to the NDTV report, the Sudarshan Čakra is expected to function similarly to the Israeli Iron Cup and designed us Golden Dome and acted as a protective shield against missile threats.
Shield against rocket threats and cyber attacks
While India is already operating an integrated air command and control system that has successfully faced Pakistani attempts to miss a rocket during the Sindoor operation, the new system could exceed the traditional missile defense, the report added.
The name of the project draws on Hindu mythology and refers to the Sudarshan chakra used by Lord Krishna to help Arjuna in battle. According to the Prime Minister, the system should be completely explored, developed and produced on the domestic market with the aim of significant expansion and modernization by 2035.
In particular, the report emphasizes that the Sudarshan chakra missions are likely to include accurate skills and measures to combat cyber threats such as hacking and phishing. The initiative is expected to include cooperation between the best Indian scientific and defensive research agencies, military and innovators of the private sector.
The announcement comes as a result of the April terrorist attack and the Sindoor operation in Pahalgam in May, during which Pakistan tried to target Indian military installations, fighter aircraft and city center. Indian defense systems have not successfully neutralized these attacks and emphasized the existing defensive strengths of the country.
The Sudarshan Chakra mission seems to be a continuation of the Indian efforts to strengthen its security infrastructure and ensure a complex, multilayer defensive strategy in the face of developing threats.
