Story so far: On Friday (June 26, 2026), Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a three-year plan to control narcotics in India. The Vision on Drug Control (2026-2029) was released at the 10th Narco-Coordination Center (NCORD) Summit organized by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). NCORD is a four-tier mechanism set up by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to coordinate among stakeholders such as states, ministries and the pharmaceutical sector to fight the drug menace and bring all stakeholders under one roof.
According to Mr Shah, the entire road map was prepared on the basis of “detection, disruption and destruction”. It provides a time-bound national strategy to dismantle the narcotics ecosystem through coordinated action against human trafficking, drug abuse, illicit financing and organized crime networks.
