Speaking to the Indian Express, the Indian captain said that Gambhir placed the trophy in front of the players and said it was the most important thing. The Indian coach said that at the end of the day, the trophies they have won together will be the most important.
“It was Gauti bhai’s. He put the trophy in front of us and said, this is the most important thing in our dressing room, nothing else matters. How many runs you score, people will forget. But this trophy will always be remembered. We will all remember how many championships we have won as a team. You can win 100 bilateral matches and nobody will remember us,” Suryamar said.
DID TEAM INDIAN GAMBHIR SPREAD A SMILE?
Gambhir is known for always having a serious demeanor during games. Asked if Gambhir was smiling after seeing the team’s performance, Suryakumar said they made sure the coach was happy during the business end of the competition.
“We didn’t give him a chance to laugh in the first four matches – but after that I think he was very happy watching this team because I don’t think any T20 side in India batted like that, scored 250, 256, chased well. I think he smiled the most after the final,” Suryakumar said.
India lost only one match in the entire competition en route to the title.
