These components, distributed across various geographical and physiographic regions, show strategic military forces over the government of Maratha, Indian officials said earlier.
After the inscription, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Minister of the Union Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat together with the main Minister Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis praised the historical milestone.

12 Fortress “Maratha Military Landscape” shows a strategic military vision and architectural inventiveness of the marath empire. Contain from the 17th to the 19th century.
Selected places are spreading through the States of Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, including Salher, Shivneri, Lohgad, Khanderi, Raigad, Rajgad, Pratapgad, Suvarnadurg, Panhala, Vijaydurg and Sindhudurg in Maharashtra, along with Fingee in Tamil Nadu.
In the framework of archaeological survey India are protected by the strength of Shivneri, Lohgad, Raigad, Suvarnadurg, Panhala Fort, Vijaydurg, Sindhudurg and Gingee Fort.
While Salher Fort, Rajgad, Khanderi Fort and Pratapgarh are protected by the Directorate of Archeology and Museums, the Maharashtra government.
These fortresses reflect sophisticated understanding of geography and strategic defense planning.
According to the details, Salher, Shivneri, Lohgad, Raigad, Rajgad and Gingee are located in hilly terrains, and are therefore called fortresses. On the contrary, Pratapgad, set in a dense forest, is classified as a strength from the forest.
It is located on a plateau, Panhala is a fortress for Plateau. Vijaydurg, located along the coast, is a remarkable coastal fortress, while Khanderi, Suvarnadurg and Sindhudurg, surrounded by sea, are recognized as island fortress.
In its statement, the Indian government stated that India is 6th in the world and second in the Asian -Pacific region for the most world heritage. India also has 62 seats in the preliminary world heritage list.
