Australian cricket Travis and Pat Cummins reportedly rejected a lucrative agreement worth RS 58 Crore to leave the national team and play exclusively in the franchise cricket. The former Aakash Chopra cricket responded to the news that was virus on the social media on Wednesday 8 October.
Chopra said on his YouTube channel and said that only privileged players can afford to refuse such offers. Cummins and Head, who are currently active in all formats, hold a very high place in the franchise cricket world. The duo plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad in Premier League, Indian and 2024 Mega auction.
“I do not know if the information is credible or not, but it is said that Pat Cummins and Travis Head have denied a lucrative agreement. The offer can only come from the IPL team because they have franchises in most of the world, with the exception of BBL,” Chopra said.
The former player believed that players from West India would be difficult to ignore such an offer. West Indies cricket, which has undergone financial unrest over the last two decades, has lost many talented franchise league players around the world.
Only in recent years players from other countries have become globetrotters and devote a large part of their career to franchises around the world. Nicholas Pooran, one of the pioneers of the T20 launching, recently left the international cricket to focus solely on the franchise cricket.
Chopra said that if a similar offer of Crore RS was made to a West Indian player, they might not have rejected it.
“The contract is huge, but they are Australians who can say no. Western Indians probably can’t. They don’t have the same feeling of national identity – there is no national anthem when Western India is in the field,” Chopra added.
The rumors that head and cummins receive mega amounts to leave international crickets again illuminate the ongoing shift in force in the cricket world.
Since the bilateral series causes fewer crowds and decreases in commercial attraction, the question arises: should the cricket follow the football leadership and develop in a sport with franchise dominance? Given that the franchise leagues are growing in influence and money, the international cricket faces the challenge of reinforcement of themselves to remain relevant in the increasingly commercialized sports landscape.
