West Indies’ Campbell survives and sinks defending champions New Zealand
Shemaine Campbell hit an unbeaten 88 off 59 balls as West Indies pulled off a thrilling two-wicket win over defending champions New Zealand in the opening match of the Women’s World T20 Cup. Chasing 163, West Indies recovered from an early deficit and rode on Campbelle’s composed innings, which featured timely boundaries and three sixes. New Zealand were left to sue a series of dropped catches, missed stumps and fielding errors that allowed Campbell to anchor the chase. Earlier, Maddy Green’s 35 and contributions from Sophie Devine and Brooke Halliday helped New Zealand post 162 for 6, but it proved insufficient.
