West Bengal News: Railways Cancel 8 Trains As Land Sinks In Maldah Division After Heavy Rains — Full List Here | Today’s news
Railways has canceled 8 trains scheduled for Friday following the tragic earth collapse at “Tildanga–New Farakka” in Maldah division. This affected the train connectivity between North and South Bengal. Due to heavy rains on Wednesday, the ground caved in between New Farakka and Kalidanga railway stations in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district, an Eastern Railway official told PTI on Thursday.
“On Wednesday evening, a landslide occurred under the railway line between New Farakka and Kalidanga stations due to heavy rain,” PTI quoted an official as saying.
Eastern Railway informed passengers about “land subsidence” affecting train services, further informing that train number 13429 running between Malda town and Anand Vihar Terminal Express has been diverted via Bihar’s Kiul Junction towards Munger Railway Station (MGR) and Katihar Junction (KIR).
A post on X states, “Due to land subsidence at New Farakka above Malda Division, some train services have been diverted or cancelled.
13063 Howrah-Balurghat Express and 13053 Howrah-Radhikapur Kulik Express scheduled for Friday have also been cancelled.
On Thursday, authorities announced the cancellation of 23 train services “due to landslides”. In addition, 30 trains were diverted, 3 others were terminated briefly and one was diverted.
While some trains connecting Chennai and Tiruchirappalli to New Jalpaiguri were diverted via Nalhati and Azimganj, other trains that were canceled included 13169 Sealdah-Saharsa Hate Bazare Express and Malda Town-Gomti Nagar Amrit Bharat Express.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), during the 24-hour period ending September 3 at 8:30 am, heavy downpour of 7 to 11 cm was recorded at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal.
“Light to Moderate Rain/Thunderstorms very likely at most places over all districts of South Bengal with very likely occurrence of heavy rain (07-11 cm) at one or two places over East Burdwan, Birbhum, Mursidabad, Nadia, North 24 Parganas districts of South Bengal. km, Thunderstorm, Lightning and 30 km (Sph) also very likely at one or two places in all districts of South Bengal,” the weather office said.
The Meteorological Department has predicted isolated heavy rainfall for sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till September 8. The Gangetic West Bengal region is likely to see heavy rainfall till September 5 and again on September 8 and 9. Prevailing atmospheric conditions indicate a possibility of “Solo Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 km/h gusting up to 50 km/h)” and lightening over sub-Himalayan West Bengal till Saturday.
