West Bengal recorded a record voter turnout of 92.03% in the first phase of parliamentary elections on Thursday (April 23, 2026), amid isolated incidents of violence.
The election, which was the highest voter turnout in the state since 1951, was followed by a four-month special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which saw a drop in voters of about 12%.
