Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) of “Anti-Bengals” was accused by the main Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee (August 4, 2025) and caused flood situations throughout the state with a sudden “11-time increase in water”.
“A Staggering 11-Fold Incime in DvC’s Water Discharge in 2025, Compared To 2024, Has Shaken Us. IT is 30-Times Higher Than 2023! Man-Made Catastrophe, More and More, ”MS. BANERJEE WROTE ON X.
In her post she quoted data and claimed that the outflow of DVC in June and July this year was 50,287 cubic meters, while its outflow in the same months of last year was only 4,535 lakh meters.
Damodar Valley Corporation is a central agency that manages the network of dams in the Damodar River Valley, which has expanded through Jharkhand and West Bengal.
“This massive, sudden, unprecedented high edition during the top monsoon has destroyed our districts, destroying huge crops, breaking a large amount of waterfront, damaging numerous roads and forcing thousands to evacuate.
Also in previous years, Mrs Banejee publicly criticized DVC for release of water and deterioration of the state’s flood crisis during the monsoon.
During the rainy season, large volumes of water released by dams can cause floods downstream, especially in some districts in West Bengal.
Profession from June
Since June this year, the West Bengal has experienced acute floods, with the Minister for irrigation and Waterways, Manas Ranjan Bhunia, earlier that the flood crisis in the state has been the worst in recent years. For the most part, it attributed this to the alleged misunderstanding of water from the regulatory committee for the Damodar Valley reservoir (DVRRC) and the unusually high precipitation, which experienced throughout the State in 2025, among other things.
“Despite repeated requirements and early communication from the State Government, Dvrrc did not manage to issue a dam from the DVC dams in Jharkhand to facilitate the effective flood management in West Bengal,” said Mr. Bhunia 31 July.
He also claimed that the DVC did not perform dredging in its dams and claimed that severe sowing was the reason for the reduced depth of the tanks and their inability to contain water.
“We have repeatedly asked the central government to excite and restore the depth of tanks to increase their containing capacity. But they do not do the necessary.
On Monday at 17:00, the DVC flashed on its website warning against the Panchet Dam to release 60,000 water water with the expected arrival time in various areas of South Bengal from 5 to 8 July.
Mr. Bhunia said on Monday that the Hinduists said that the districts that hit the DVC water most include Purba Bardhan, Howrah, Hooghly, Paschim Medinipur, Bankura and Purb Medinipur.
DVC officials could not be contacted for comment.
