Cyberabad Traffic police booked 426 motorists during the special weekend drink driving checks conducted on December 5 and 6. The figures include two-wheeler riders who account for the majority of cases at 323, followed by 85 four-wheeler drivers, 17 three-wheeler drivers and one heavy vehicle driver.
All perpetrators will be brought to justice. Police reiterated that drunken driving is a serious offense and warned that in cases where a fatal accident occurs, those behind the wheel will face charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which carries a maximum penalty of ten years with fine.
From December 1 to December 6, the courts dealt with 410 cases of driving under the influence of alcohol. 41 offenders received fines along with imprisonment, 21 social service fines and 348 fines.
