
The India Meteorological Department on Thursday, May 7, said heavy rainfall is likely to lash parts of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the next six to seven days. The Meteorological Department has also issued heat wave warnings in several states in the coming days.
Warning for rain and thunderstorms
The IMD on Thursday said heavy rains, thundershowers, lightning and gusty winds (40-60 kmph) are likely over Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal during the next six to seven days.
A press release dated May 6 said: “Isolated heavy rainfall also likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and Kerala & Mahe during the next 7 days.”

Weather on May 7: IMD has predicted isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall with thundershowers, lightning and gusty winds over Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and East Rajasthan.
Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall with thundershowers, lightning and gusty winds is also likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during May 7 to May 9.
“Isolated heavy rains likely over Arunachal Pradesh on 7th, 12th and 13th and Assam & Meghalaya on 12th and 13th May,” the IMD added.
Bihar and Odisha may also witness isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall between 7th and 11th May and Jharkhand on 7th May, 8th May, 11th May and 12th May.
Maharashtra may also witness isolated light to moderate rainfall for the next three days.
Heat wave warning
The IMD said heat waves are likely to prevail over isolated areas of West Rajasthan and Gujarat from May 9 to May 13.
In a press release, the Meteorological Department said, “Heat conditions are likely to prevail in isolated pockets over the state of Gujarat and West Rajasthan during 9-13.
“Hot and humid weather is very likely to prevail in isolated pockets over Konkan & Goa during May 7-9, 2026,” the IMD said.
Meanwhile, dust storms are likely to lash several parts of Rajasthan from Thursday, with maximum temperatures expected to rise gradually in the coming days, the weather center said.
Strong dusty winds are likely to affect Jodhpur division and adjoining areas for the next three to four days from May 7.
Thunderstorm and rain activity is expected to decrease over most of the state in the coming days. However, isolated places in northeastern areas may experience light rainfall, the Met Department said.
Maximum temperatures are likely to rise by 3-5 degrees Celsius in most parts of the state during the next two to three days.
Meanwhile, light rainfall accompanied by thundershowers was recorded at isolated places in the state during the 24 hours ending Thursday morning. Bari in Dholpur district recorded the highest rainfall of 11 mm.
Phalodi recorded the state’s highest maximum temperature of 42.8 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours.
