
The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Gujarat and predicted heat wave conditions for March 12. According to the IMD, several places in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Chhattisgarh reported maximum temperatures of up to 42 degrees Celsius on March 11. Even in Delhi, Haryana, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh, the mercury touched 38 degrees Celsius.
Nandurbar located in Madhya Maharashtra reported the highest maximum temperature of 42.4°C on Wednesday.
With most of India experiencing record high temperatures in March, the IMD has predicted that some relief is likely in the coming days with rain expected in several north Indian and northeastern states. Besides, a fresh western disturbance is likely to hit northwest India from March 14 onwards.
In its latest weather bulletin, the IMD said, “Heat wave to severe heat waves are likely to continue over Gujarat state during March 11-13 and will weaken thereafter.”
Weather Forecast for Northwest India:
The IMD has predicted rainfall over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand till March 17. “Solid light rainfall with thundershowers, lightning and gusty winds reaching speed (30-50 kmph) are also likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh during March 14-16; Uttar Pradesh on March 15-16 and Rajasthan on March 14-15,” the weather office said. A gradual fall in maximum temperature of 4-6°C is likely over the western Himalayan region during the next 7 days, the IMD said.
Weather Forecast for Northeast India:
The Meteorological Department has predicted “scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rain with thundershowers likely over Northeast India” till March 17. Meanwhile, Assam and Meghalaya may experience heavy rainfall between March 13 and 15, while Arunachal Pradesh may expect downpour from March 12 to March 14.
East and Central India Weather Forecast:
Rainfall is likely in Chhattisgarh between March 13 and 15, Madhya Pradesh on March 14 and 15, West Bengal and Sikkim till March 16. Rain is likely in Jharkhand on March 12 and between March 15 and 17 and Odisha on March 12 and 15. The IMD has predicted a gradual rise in maximum temperatures of 2-3°C over the next 2 days. A decrease of 2-4°C in maximum temperature is likely over coastal Maharashtra during the next 4 days.
Weather Forecast for South Peninsular India:
Isolated light to moderate thundershowers are likely in Telangana on March 15.

The IMD has forecast mainly clear skies with the maximum temperature more than 5 degrees Celsius above normal and likely to hover around 34°C to 36°C. The minimum temperature will be 3.1°C to 5.0°C above normal and likely to settle around 16°C to 18°C.
