
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for cold waves in Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and other parts of North India on Sunday, January 25. The weather department has also predicted rain to heavy rainfall at many places on January 26 and January 27.
“An intense western disturbance affected the western Himalaya region from January 26 to 28, bringing light to moderate rainfall at many places and isolated heavy rain/snowfall on January 27,” IMD he said.

A cold wave warning has been issued for Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab on January 25. Punjab is also likely to witness dense fog on Sunday.
The IMD said: “Cold wave conditions likely in isolated pockets over Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana Chandigarh, Rajasthan on January 25 and 26.”
“Dense to very dense fog likely during morning/night hours in some/isolated pockets over Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh on January 25-26,” the IMD added.
Meanwhile, in the southern region, heavy rainfall is likely to lash parts of Tamil Nadu on Sunday.
Rainfall Warning
IMD has predicted light/moderate rainfall at many places over Western Himalayan region between January 26-28 and isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall on January 27, 2026
“Hail activity is also likely over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh on January 27 and Uttarakhand on January 27 and 28,” the IMD said.
It added: “Thunderstorm with lightning and wind speed reaching 40-50 km/h gusting to 60 km/h likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on 24 and 25 and over Kerala and Mahe on 26. Haryana, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan on 27 January.
