Weather Forecast LIVE Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the Southwest Monsoon has covered almost the entire country after arriving in Delhi and Rajasthan on Thursday, later than its usual onset date. Monsoon cloud cover further advanced into some other parts of Gujarat, remaining parts of Uttar Pradesh, entire Delhi, most parts of Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and some parts of Rajasthan on July 2, the meteorological agency said.
On the progress of monsoon, the IMD in its latest weather bulletin said, “Conditions are favorable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some other parts of Gujarat, remaining parts of Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab and some other parts of Rajasthan during the next 2-3 days.”
Mumbai, Nainital on orange alert
The Mumbai Regional Meteorological Center has now issued an orange alert warning of moderate to heavy rain likely at isolated places during the next 3 hours. A weather alert is in effect for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad. Heavy rainfall has disrupted life in India’s financial capital in recent days as waterlogged and blocked roads have caused intense traffic snarls.
Besides, Uttarakhand’s Nainital and Bageshwar districts are also on orange alert today, with the IMD predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in some areas. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Delhi and Kolkata, predicting thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds. Monsoon arrived in Uttarakhand on June 30 and became active across the state on Wednesday.
The rain triggered a landslide on the Badrinath National Highway, due to which the Kedarnath pilgrimage route was briefly disrupted, PTI reported. Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district has witnessed heavy rains due to which the Hindustan-Tibet Highway (NH-5) is blocked.
