President Donald Trump on Tuesday (July 8) threatened the federal intervention in the administration of New York, if Zohran Mamdani, progressive State Assembly and a candidate of the democratic mayor are elected.
Trump described Mamdani as the “Communist” and said that such a result would not be tolerated under his watch.
“If the Communist is elected to run New York, it can never be the same,” Trump said during a meeting of the Cabinet in the comments published by the post. “But in the White House we have tremendous power to run places where we have to.”
“New York City will run right,” he added. “I’ll bring New York back. I love New York.”
Trump refused to name the preferred candidate in the upcoming elections of the mayor of the city and said, “I am not involved,” but used this moment to kill Mamdani.
“We’ll straighten the New York”
Trump explained that he was considering using powerful powers to intervene directly in the city administration.
“Maybe we’ll have to straighten it from Washington,” Trump said. “We’ll do something for New York. I can’t tell you what else but we’ll do New York again.
Signs on Federal Control of Washington, DC
In the continuation of the topic of Trump, he also floated the possibility of taking over administration in Washington, DC, and quoted fears of crime and poor management.
“In the White House we have tremendous strength to run places when we have to,” Trump said. “We could run DC, we look at DC, we don’t want a criminal in DC, we want the city to run well.”
He worked out, “I mean, in the sense that we would start it so well that it would be so right, we would get the best person to run it. And we know that the crime will be at a minimum, there will be much less,” the president continued. “And, you know, we’re thinking about doing it to be honest with you. We want capital that runs them flawlessly, and it wouldn’t be difficult for us to do it. And we had a good relationship with the mayor and test it to see if it works.”
Constitutional and political consequences
While Trump has not set legal action to take over, his comments are likely to arouse strong reactions, given the traditionally autonomous nature of the municipal administration in New York and Washington, DC
Mamdani has not yet publicly answered Trump’s notes.
