“As per the MMDR Act 2021 of the Ministry of Coal, GOI, any allottee can sell 50% of the annual production of coal after meeting the requirements of end-use facilities and meeting all the requirements regarding taxes and levies. WBPDCL has an average daily consumption of 60,000 tonnes of coal with an average production of surplus WMMDCL and more than this coal, WBPDCL can now sell surplus coal,” the corporation said in an official statement. statement.

With its own production now exceeding its own consumption, the state-owned power utility has started selling surplus coal in the open market, starting with NTPC. WBPDCL plans to sell 3.5 million tonnes of wickets by March 2027, WBPDCL added.
