The Kerala High Court has asked both the central and state governments to respond to a petition seeking compensation for land in landslide-affected Wayanad areas that have been declared as ‘No Go Zones’.
The government took over these lands in Meppadi panchayat after devastating landslides in July 2024 and subsequently designated the area as a “No Go Zone” and banned all construction activities.
The petitioners sought compensation for their lands under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 along with appropriate rehabilitation measures.
