
Water supply to several areas in the district will be partially or completely interrupted on Monday (March 2, 2026) and Tuesday (March 3, 2026) as part of the supply measures being prepared for Attukal Pongala, the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) said.
Supply to Madhupalam, Nelliyode, Thiruvazhimukku, Thampuranmukku, Menilam and Punchakkari will be partially affected on Monday and fully on Tuesday, according to KWA. The water company advised consumers to take reasonable precautions. As part of the water supply measures for the Attukal Pongala, which falls on Tuesday, there will be a reduction in pumping to the Judgikunnu reservoir under Vandithadam KWA section, KWA said.
Meanwhile, KWA said it has made extensive arrangements in view of water supply requirements on Pongal day. KWA has also opened a control room to the public (mobile number: 9188127947). 1550 temporary taps are installed in the festival zone. Showers at the bathing ghats and 23 fire hydrants are also provided. Further, KWA will also deploy tankers to ensure adequate supply. The KWA Blue Brigade will be in operation 24 hours a day.
Meanwhile, the Thiruvananthapuram district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a protest outside the residence of Water Resources Minister Rosha Augustine demanding urgent measures to address the water shortage in the city. The BJP demanded the immediate intervention of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Mr Augustin to resolve the issue.
