The water was released from the lower tank of Anaictut and Veeranam for irrigation in the districts of Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai and Thanjavur on Wednesday.
Minister for Agriculture and Farmers MRK Panneerselvam opened goals. Water will help farmers to irrigate 1 31 903 acres in three districts.
According to the press release, about 3,400 cuses would release from the lower Anaict and another 405 CUSECS from the Veeranam tank. The Vadavar would be released about 2,200 cuses of water and 600 channels from southern Rajan and northern Rajan channels. The released quantum would increase depending on the irrigation requirements.
From the water released from the lower anaict, it would benefit an area of 92,853 acres in the district of Cuddalore and 39,050 hectares in the Mayiladuthurai and Thanjavur districts. Part of the Veeranam Vadavar Canal system would benefit 44,856 acres in the Cuddalore district.
The collector of Cuddalore Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar was present.
