In an effort to bring water supply and sanitation closer to the residents and address issues at the local level, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) launched its basti bata field intervention program on Friday.
The programme, as directed by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, is for proactive management of drinking water and sanitation problems in the city. Under the plan, officials will visit neighborhoods every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday to interact with residents, address their complaints, and develop long-term solutions while promoting water conservation and groundwater improvement. The program will be held from 7 am to 10 am on these days, said MD K. Ashok Reddy.
On Friday, the basti bata began at 6 a.m. with Mr. Reddy inspecting water supply operations and interacting with households in Shankar Nagar, Huda Colony, Deepti Sri Nagar and Miyapur, in and around Serilingampally.
Officials checked water quality and questioned consumers about the timing and adequacy of supplies.
Mr. Reddy also inspected the ongoing desilting work of sewer shafts in Huda Colony and directed the authorities to regularly clear waste and identify damaged or misaligned shafts for reconstruction.
For the blocked culvert on the Miyapur main road, as road construction obscured access to the culvert and allowed silt to enter the sewer line, he recommended temporary diversion of the sewer line and urged a permanent solution.
Joint Chief Executive Officer Mayank Mittal reviewed the water supply complaints in SR Nagar division. In their respective jurisdictions, Hyderabad Region ED Samrat Ashok, Cyberabad Region ED Santosh and Malkajgiri Region ED Pankaja along with directors and senior officials conducted field inspections and interacted with residents to improve service delivery.
