Another young Kohli fan was running around in sheer joy after securing the Indian star’s autograph in Perth ahead of the first ODI against Australia. Kohli looked sharp during India’s clean session in Perth, marking his return to the team after a long break since the Champions Trophy.
The away fans were delighted when both Kohli and Rohit Sharma turned up for optional practice and shook off the rust ahead of Sunday’s first ODI. He began by taking a catch on the grass where he scored his last Test century almost a year ago, then spent 40 minutes in the nets, facing back deliveries from Harshit Rana, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh and local bowlers.
There were a few awkward moments but overall he looked confident and prepared for what could be lively conditions in the wet – different from the usual Perth sun. Kohli has a remarkable record in Australia, scoring 1327 runs from 29 innings at an average of 51.03 with five scores and six fifties to his name.
